Demurrage Recheck

For shipowners and operators with 5 to 20 ships

Were you paid all the demurrage you earned? We re-check closed voyages for free

Upload the charter party, the statements of facts and what the charterers paid. Code rebuilds the timeline line by line and calculates laytime and demurrage; a laytime reviewer checks every term against the charter party and every time against the statement of facts. If you were under-paid, you get the laytime statement and a claim letter to send — with the time-bar date in front of you.

What it costs

Free re-calculation · 15% of what is recovered

Re-calculating your closed voyages is free. If the claim we prepare is paid, our fee is 15% of what the charterers pay on it, invoiced after the money arrives. Nothing recovered, nothing to pay.

Outsourced laytime services usually charge a fixed fee per claim, whether or not it is paid (source). We are paid only from money that reaches you.

How it works

  1. You add a closed voyage. The charter party or recap, the statement of facts for each port, and the demurrage the charterers paid. PDF, Word, Excel or text — read in your browser.
  2. Code builds the timeline. Every NOR, commencement, completion and stoppage is kept with the line of the statement of facts it comes from, word for word. Lines it cannot read are listed, never dropped.
  3. A laytime reviewer checks it. Every term — rate, laytime, notice time, excepted periods, whether exceptions apply once on demurrage — is confirmed against the charter party, and every time against the statement of facts. Then code calculates.
  4. You decide and send. The statement shows what was due, what was paid and the difference, and the time-bar date from your claims clause. The claim letter is a Word file; you send it, with the documents the clause asks for.

Why the date matters

Many charter parties bar a demurrage claim that is not presented, with all its supporting documents, within a set time after discharge — 90 days in some printed forms (source). We never assume the number: we read it from your clause, show the deadline on every voyage, and remind you once if a claim is close to it and not sent.

Re-check my voyages

Nothing is ordered by asking. You get an account where you add closed voyages, and a person writes back the same working day.

For example: Head of Operations, Claims Manager.

For example: a claim close to its time bar.

What we do not do

We do not send the claim or negotiate it for you, and we do not act in arbitration or in court. We do not decide whether a notice of readiness was valid or how a disputed clause is to be read: where the charter party is unclear, the reviewer says so and you decide. We are not lawyers: this is not legal advice. No one can promise that a claim is paid.

Every rule the calculation uses is a term of your charter party, entered or confirmed by a person — the BIMCO Laytime Definitions 2013 are shown as the reference reading, not as defaults (sources).
